SC extends Subrata Roy's parole
Sahara Chief Subrata Roy was once again granted parole by the Supreme Court. The court extended Roy's parole till April 17 and directed the Sahara group to deposit Rs 5,092.6 crore by April 7 for Roy's bail.

The court also said that in case the group deposits a "substantial amount" out of Rs 5092.6 crore by April 7, the group may be given more time to sell the properties that have been attached by the court to recover the money from the Sahara group.

"In view of the aforesaid, we permit the contemnor to sell the properties mentioned in part A (of the list), barring items 14 and 15, and any other properties mentioned in part B which are unencumbered and to deposit Rs 5092.6 crore on or before April 7. The amount shall be deposited in the SEBI-Sahara refund account," a bench of justices Dipak Misra, A K Sikri and Ranjan Gogoi, said.

Earlier in February this year, the apex court had ordered attachment of Sahara's prime property worth Rs 39,000 crore at Aamby Valley in Pune.

The court had sent Sahara chief Subrata Roy was to jail on March 4, 2014, after he failed to comply with the apex court's orders to refund money to about two crore small investors.

The court also asked an international real estate firm to deposit Rs 750 crore in the apex court registry before April 10 to show its bonafide. Th firm has claimed to be willing to buy Sahara's stake in New York-based Plaza Hotel for $550 million,

The case will now be heard on April 17.
