Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana in Arunachal celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities with emphasis on inclusive education
International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed in Arunachal Pradesh by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana (SSA) on December 3 with emphasis on inclusive education and to promote the rights and welfare of differently abled children, informed Shoma Dey Barman, who works for SSA.

The observance is being held since 1992 to increase public awareness, acceptance and understanding of children with special needs.

Globally, the observance aims to promote empowerment, inclusion and access of differently abled persons and reduce inequalities in society through their integration in educational, health, political, social, economic and cultural life.

This year, IDPD was observed as "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all". In Delhi, President Ram Nath Kovind gave away the "National Award for Divyangjan- 2017" at a function and stressed the need for economic independence of Divyangjans in the society.

He also emphasized the need for special training to teachers so as to cater to their specific needs of differently abled children.

Meanwhile, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu launched Deen Dayal Divyang Sahajya Yojna in Assam in the state capital Guwahati for the benefit of Divyangjan.
