Preview: ICC Women's World Cup 2017 – Confident India to battle against six-time champions Australia
A confident Indian women's cricket team will seek to secure a place in the final when they take on six-time champions Australia in a key match on Thursday in the semi-final of the ICC Women's World Cup 2017.

Although, India have a poor record against Australia, having lost 34 out of the 42 games the two teams have played against each other so far, the Indian women's cricket team seems confident as they have been playing good cricket in the tournament.

The match will be played at the County Ground in Derby. India have won all the four games that they have played at this venue so far. So, India go into today's match with an advantage when it comes to adapting to the conditions.

The spin trio of Ekta Bisht, Poonam Yadav and Deepti Sharma have been the backbone of India's bowling attack throughout the tournament. While the Indian slow bowlers have been quite impressive with the ball, Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey too have rattled batswomen with their pace.

On the other hand, the team's brilliant batting has also delivered in crucial matches.

However, the form of opener Smriti Mandhana, who looked in good touch at the start of the tournament would be a cause of concern for the Indian camp. India's batting will once again heavily depend on skipper Mithali Raj as has been the case throughout the ICC Women's World Cup 2017.

India's big win over New Zealand by 186 runs in their last match would have definitely given the team confidence against Australia ahead of the semi-final game.

As far as Australia's performance is concerned, there is no doubt that the team has tremendous players in every department to face any situation. They have a lot of depth in their batting and have good bowlers who can restrict the opposition. They are also a great fielding side and much better in India's comparison.

Although, the Indian team has performed quite well throughout the tournament so far, the past is behind them now. Indian players would have to bat, bowl and field out of their skins today to have any chance against a strong Australian side. A key area for improvement in the Indian team is their fielding. The team must avoid any sloppiness in the field and hold on to their catches. While batting too, the Indian team has squandered many opportunities in past matches of the tournament by losing sight of the run rate and often batting too slow while trying to consolidate. The team would have to maintain a healthy run rate right from the start to overcome the mighty Australians.

On current form and team combination, undoubtedly, Australia start as clear favourites in today's clash.
