Photoshopped Diwali picture of Golden Temple Amritsar with sky lanterns gets widely shared on social media
A Facebook friend while sharing a picture of the Golden Temple in Amritsar surrounded with paper lanterns wrote, "Absolute heaven...Golden Temple fireworks but lanterns in the sky reflected in the Sarovar surrounding the Gurudwara."

Not only that, the picture of the Golden Temple sky with thousands of rising lanterns has been widely shared on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.

However, the reality check revealed that the festival of Diwali in Amritsar was celebrated with fervour as usual and there were no sky lanterns lighting up the sky over Shri Harmandir Sahib. The night picture of the temple was Photoshopped that tricked many people to believe it to be true. However, many corrected themselves soon after realisation that the picture has been manipulated.

Diwali is celebrated as Bandi Chhorh Divas or 'Prisoner Release Day' attributed to the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib, being released from Gwalior Prison in India along with 52 princes in 1619.

Sikhs all across the globe celebrate the day as the triumph of right over wrong and a tribute to the Guru who saved many lives from the clutches of the unjust Mughals.

This year, Eco Sikh NGO and other social had been spreading messages through social media, rallies, and awareness campaigns for green Diwali, so that people become aware of harm the noisy Diwali brings to people and animals.
