Northeast Assembly poll 2018 results: BJP captures power in Tripura and Nagaland
Finally, the BJP has emerged victorious in Tripura ousting the Left front from power after 25 years. The Left front, reportedly, faced a major blow as it lost its last bastion in the country.

While the BJP secured 44 seats, the Left could manage to win only 15 in the state. However, the Meghalaya election results might be considered as depressing for the jubilant party as it could secure only two seats while the ruling Congress won 21 seats. In Nagaland, like Tripura, the saffron party captured 29 seats out of 59 while the Congress scored zero. All three Northeastern states where elections were held consist of 60 seats each. The elections for three constituencies, one in each state, were terminated for different reasons like death of candidate etc.

The election results of these Northeastern states, as a section of political analysts observed, would have impact upon the national politics. Especially the Tripura elections may be a game changer in the political scenario of the NE including Assam in the days to come. The BJP could, as it had vowed after the last Assam Assembly elections, strengthened its presence in the region capturing power of four states.

In the meanwhile, Assam BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been considered as the chief elections strategist for the region for his party, taking dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed the latter as child. Sarma also ridiculed Manik Sarkar and asked him to go either West Bengal or Bangladesh.
