In Jaipur, Gita Jayanti - the birthday of Bhagvad Gita, the revered text of the Hindus - was celebrated at various location on November 30 such as Rajasthan Sanskrit Academy, ISKCON temple and other temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. Also, along with recitation of the sacred text, yagyas were also performed. The free copies of the Gita were also distributed at a few places.

Gita Jayanti is celebrated on the Shukla Ekadashi, 11th day of the waxing moon of Margashirsha month of the Hindu calendar each year. This year, the festival fell on November 30 and was celebrated with devotion and gaiety. The festival was marked by en-masse recitation of all 700 verses of the Gita chanted throughout the day. Devotees also fasted on this day since it is an Ekadashi day.

It is believed the 'Bhagavad Gita' of 'Divine Song'was revealed to Arjuna by Lord Krishna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra in Haryana, India. The ancient scripture is considered to be non-sectarian philosophical work.

Here are a few haiku that give the message of Bhagvad Gita.

Equanimity / in the face of dualities / leads us to freedom.

Equanimity - / Serenity of pure mind, / is bliss – eternal joy.

When mind sans desires / When mind and soul harmonize / You live life soulfully.

Act detachedly / Make every act divine / Ask not for the fruits.

Let go of hatred / Let go of lust, anger, greed - / To make life divine.

Treat all with kindness / Be always serene, unmoved, / Same in pain or gain
