IPL 2018 players retention: Dhoni-Raina-Jadeja retained by CSK; KKR parts ways with Gambhir
The eight Indian Premier League (IPL) squads, on Thursday, officially named the players who will be retained by them for the next season of the Vivo IPL 2018.

The decision was made during the IPL's player retention event in Mumbai yesterday where a total of 18 players were retained by eight IPL franchises.

After serving a two-year suspension from the world's most-watched cricket league, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) make their comeback in IPL 2018.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is known as the most successful captain in IPL's history, is now back at his 'spiritual home' as the ex-Indian skipper was retained by CSK for Rs 15 crore at the players retention event. "Dhoni is extremely excited, he is waiting to wear the yellow jersey again and we are excited to have him back," CSK's representative George John was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.

While Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma will remain with the Nita Ambani-owned team, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Australia's swashbuckling batsman David Warner and talented Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Most of
the retentions have taken place on the expected lines.

"It was a great opportunity to retain some players. We want to pick impact players who can take team forward. Warner and Bhuvaneshwar are impact players and impact is the right word for SRH," team mentor VVS Laxman said after the retention process got concluded.

But the most surprising and bold decision was taken by the Kolkata Knight Riders as the team did not retain its former skipper Gautam Gambhir for IPL 2018. However, Knight Riders has retained its two proficient Jamaican players - Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.

Indian captain Virat Kohli along with AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan were retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Virat Kohli's retention came at a price of Rs 17 crore. The Indian skipper remains with the RCB, becoming the priciest retention of IPL 2018.

According to the IPL's retention policy, the teams can retain a maximum of five players per team, out of which a maximum of three can be capped Indian players, a maximum of two can be uncapped Indian players, and a maximum of two can be overseas players.
