Indian woman cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur fined Rs 27 lakh by Indian Railways
In an unprecedented move, the administration of the Indian Railways has imposed a heavy fine of Rs 27 lakh on vice captain of Indian women's cricket team Harmanpreet Kaur.

The all rounder woman cricketer has been punished for breaking her 5-year contract with the Indian Railways. It is pertinent to add that Harmanpreet Kaur, owing to her glorious performance in the last ICC Women's World Cup, had got a job offer for the post of Dy Superintendent of police by the Punjab Police.

However, Harmanpreet Kaur can join as DSP with Punjab Police only after her resignation is accepted by the Railways, but it appears that instead of encouraging Harmanpreet Kaur, the Railways is creating hurdles in her way of growth.

It is not out of place to mention that Harmanpreet Kaur was promoted to group B gazetted officer post after her wonderful performance whereas the Punjab Police, recognising her amazing contribution, had offered her a post of DSP, which is obviously a far superior position for a deserving candidate like Harmanpreet Kaur.

Punjab Police has always promoted good sportspersons with veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh already serving with Punjab Police as DSP. Let us hope that the Indian Railways will resolve the issue in the female cricketer's interest.
