Government to withdraw ban on sale of cattle for slaughter
The environment ministry has decided to withdraw the ban on sale of cattle for slaughter. The ministry is planning to make changes on its May 23rd notification after feedback from the states.

The ministry of environment sent a file to the ministry of law stating that "we are withdrawing the notification due to several issues and will be revising it", the time frame, however, is not yet decided.

The NDA government since the issue of the notice in May has faced severe criticism and assaults have been reported in the name of cow protection across the country.

Even farmers opposed the law since they were facing difficulty in buying and selling cattle for agricultural purposes.

The indications of the withdrawal of the ban came from the Centre in September this year when environment minister Harsh Vardhan said, "The rules were a regulatory regime for preventing cruelty to animals and the government did not intend to directly or indirectly affect slaughter houses or harm farmer or influence the food habits of the people."

The ministry sent two letters to the states, first after the stay of ban by the Supreme Court, for reminder to respond, and the second, of the notification of the new draft based on the feedback. The animal rights activists and traders were also consulted on the issue.
