For a fruit vendor, selling 13 pieces in a dozen is the key to success
It hardly matters how old you are, where you are from or what you do for a living, we all share something in common – a desire to be successful. There are different views about success in life. Each person's definition of success is different. Some may define success as being a loving and faithful spouse or a caring and responsible parent, while most people would equate success with wealth, fame and power.

It is an admitted fact that we all want to achieve success so we could live a comfortable life, have financial freedom, drive a nice car, and live in a beautiful house. All this could be possible but it does not come easy.

There are lot of success stories based on tips and strategies but there is no better way to succeed than to follow the footsteps of those who have already done so. Henry David Thoreau says, success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it. While Colin R Davis has said that the road to success and the road to failure are almost exactly same.

Agreeing with Colin, I have felt that success depends upon one's attitude – in business while extending the services and in family life by behaving properly with other members. At the same time, there are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world; those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed.

There is also one theory - "To Run One Mile More Theory" and those who are successful in their lives have the quality of this theory. They work more than their capacity. They apply their mind to earn more, gain popularity by doing something peculiar and extra. In a small or big business, some people become successful in a shorter time by doing something unusual at the same cost.

In this competition era, unless and until you come out with a special feature, you cannot allure your customers as a service provider. People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they find ways to succeed.

But we need not forget that the difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do. Only by doing something common uncommonly well, you can achieve in your life.

Frankly speaking, without doing the extraordinary, you cannot have success, as Vidal Sassoon has rightly said that the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Keeping all these theories and sayings, I have seen a person – a fruit merchant - in a small town selling 13 fruits like bananas and oranges in a dozen (12). I asked him, are you not at loss? He said, dear, I have already kept the margin of one extra piece in the price but it is my way of marketing that I am successful. Only because of my selling 13 pieces instead of 12 in a dozen, my sale has tripled and I have become popular in the city.
