BJP worker accused of mowing down 9 children in Bihar's Muzaffarpur with his SUV yet to be arrested
An FIR has been lodged against a BJP worker who allegedly killed 9 children in a hit-and-run case. Although the worker has been suspended from the party, he is yet to be arrested by the police.
The accident had occurred in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Saturday, in which 9 children were killed and 20 others were left injured. The children were crossing the national highway when the speeding car hit them, crushing them to death.

The accused has been identified as BJP worker Manoj Baitha. The police has also raided his village but failed to arrest him.

In the CCTV footage captured at a toll booth, Baitha is seen driving the SUV. The footage has now been sent for forensic examination. As per reports, Baitha hit two women with his car and while attempting to flee from the spot, crushed the children with his vehicle in the process. His lost control of the speeding SUV which ploughed through the children outside a government school building.

Baitha was suspended from the party membership for six years on Monday. There have been reports that Baitha was driving the SUV in an inebriated state but the same has not been confirmed as of now.

The Bihar government, of which the BJP is also a part, has come under fire from the Opposition which has claimed that it is trying to protect the accused and that is the reason that he is yet to be arrested. The Opposition also held a march near the Raj Bhavan demanding arrest of the accused. The march was led by the leader of the Opposition Tejaswi Yadav who also met the Governor of the state and demanded his intervention in the case.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has also attacked the Bihar government for its inability to arrest the accused. The government has however promised strictest punishment to the accused and has assured that he will soon be arrested. But the fact that he is yet to be arrested despite three days having passed since the accident, seems to discredit the government's claims.
